A male duet that was made into a Channel 4 film in 1999. A
concentrated duel of ducking and diving moves became a study
of competing wills. The men wear each other's bodies like
scarves, effortlessly exchanging weight as they undergo their
journey.
Critical Mass was commissioned by Thamesdown National Dance
Agency with the help of British Ballet Organisation, London
and Die Werkstatt, Düsseldorf, Germany.
Dvakrát tri / Two Times Three (2003)
Chreografia/Choreography: Russell Maliphant
Hudba/Music: Andy Cowton
Svetelný dizajn/Lighting Design: Michael Hulls
Účinkujúci/Performers: Anna Williams, Flora Bourderon, Marie
Goudot
Two Times Three is an expanded version of his acclaimed and
energetic solo Two – in which one female dancer is trapped
in a box of light typifying his fascination with the relationship
between movement, lighting and music. This powerful piece
now features thee female dancers, Anna Williams, Flora Bourderon
and Marie Goudot, whose movements are an abstraction of the
original in different perspectives. The specially commissioned
sound score by Andy Cowton will also be re-worked and extended.
Voľba / Choice (2003)
Chreografia/Choreography: Russell Maliphant
Hudba/Music: mukul (ambientTV.NET)
Svetelný dizajn/Lighting Design: Michael Hulls
Účinkujúci/Performers: Anna Williams, Flora Bourderon, Marie
Goudot, Miquel de Jong, Michael Pomero
In Choice, Maliphant works for the first time with an expanded
ensemble of five dancers taking his exploration of fluidity,
dynamics, tensions and counter tensions into new territory.
With such diverse influences as yoga, t'ai chi, capoeira and
structural integration the movement vocabulary explores notions
of weight, gravity and tensile force. Working with his long-term
collaborator, lighting designer Michael Hulls, the relationship
of light and movement is developed further defining the sculpture
of space and the body. The whole is enveloped within a sound
scape itself influenced by Asian rhythms and written by the
composer mukul (ambientTV.net).
Choice is commissioned by Festival de Danse de Cannes, Dance
Umbrella and Laban
